Jan is a talented musician and an amazing teacher. I am an adult student who has taken lessons on and off for many years. Jan is the best teacher I have ever had.
He gears our lessons to suit my learning style, teaches me how to apply the theory I have learned into real life music, all done in an upbeat and pleasant manner. Every lesson is full of laughter usually me laughing at my own mistakes. I walk out of every lesson full of inspiration wanting to just get home to practice what I have just learned.
The monthly Master Classes are an added bonus as well.
Jan truly cares for his students and goes above and beyond our weekly lessons by telling me to send a video in between lessons for feedback or assistance.
Thank you Jan!
Jan’s approach is unique to each student. He zeroes in on their interests and abilities and helps them grow into the musician they want to be. This isn’t your stodgy old music teacher! I was so impressed with my daughter’s progress that I began lessons myself. We are so happy to have found Classic Studios!
With 4 members of my family taking lessons with Classic Studios, I can say that this studio is Top Notch! The teachers are very professional, encouraging, and FUN! It’s amazing how quickly you can learn to play when your teacher makes it enjoyable! Highly recommend!
This is a gem, both for service and quality. We buy all our band instruments here. My kid loved the flute and piccolo. Next is a saxophone.
Versatile
Good inventory of musical charts back by a super musical instrument repair department.
Very pleased with my used Miyazawa flute purchased here over a year ago. Also Orman is always very helpful with ordering in the music books.
If you want woodwind instruments this is your store. A hugh selection of sheet music to pick from. Drum sticks and guitar strings a yes but drums and guitars are out of he question. Very clean and well laid out. Customer service was impeccable and friendly.
I went in to have an Alto Sax repaired and because of the fact it was not a high end Sax the elderly gentlemen at the counter actually told me ” I don’t want this repair on our reputation” He further more looked and said it would cost to much to fix, to adjust keys and repad the instrument, which on the phone they said they could do with ease. He was very rude and didn’t care to talk.
I took it to another shop they looked it was fine and they repaired it no questions asked.
Dont use this service here they are terrible.
I had to bring my saxophone in for repairs. They took it for two whole weeks and when I got it back the bottom keys and my G tone hole we’re not sealing. $146 in repairs. When I called in on the following Monday they accused me of damaging my Sax over the weekend and told me that their repair guys would never have let the sax go in that condition. $96 later from St. John’s Music and my sax is good to gig again.
Dennis is the guy I was dealing with. Dennis is a snake and the Bandstand won’t be getting any more business from me. Very unprofessional.
I went in not that long ago and my flutes pads haven’t been replaced in 25 years and I brought it in and they said that they were all fine even though I have been having problems playing for a year now, and the pads look pale and they have build up on them. I didn’t enjoy going to the bandstand.

5. The Music Fox Studio
Address: 5 Mission St, Sherwood Park, AB T8A 0V4, Canada , Sherwood Park , Alberta , Canada
I have two girls taking lessons from Andrea.
She is professional but also so kind and wonderful.
They came with no music knowledge and mostly because it was something I wanted them to do..
But Andreas fun teaching attitude has my girls excited for their weekly lesson!
It’s a very welcoming and comfortable space for learning.
I highly suggest checking Andrea out for lessons for any ages.
My daughter has been taking lessons from Andrea at the Music Fox Studio in Sherwood Park for a little over 2 years. She came to Andrea with very little music knowledge and is now able to read music well, play dozens of songs and learn new songs on her own with the knowledge learned. Andrea’s flexible approach in teaching things that keep kids interested has been key for my daughter’s progress. When my daughter started lessons, she wasn’t really that interested in the classical songs that the Royal Conservatory path offers; rather she was interested in popular songs that kids know and listen to. Taking that approach at the beginning kept her interest long enough to realize that she enjoys playing piano and wants to take it further. Now after 2 years she’s developed an interest to advance forward with the Royal Conservatory pathway, which Andrea is very qualified for teaching. We’ve been very happy with the Music Fox Studio, and I recommend Andrea as a piano teacher for anyone, adult or children, who may have interest in learning piano.
I would definitely recommend Andrea for your piano teacher needs. My 6 year old daughter started taking lessons from her with no previous musical experience. She is very kind and patient and will meet the student where they are. She keeps my daughter interested by choosing songs she is interested in, playing fun interactive games and praising her for her efforts. Her studio is clean, organized and welcoming. Andrea is very accommodating as well.

Amazing music school with dedicated, highly-qualified teachers. The owners, staff and teachers are very friendly and welcoming . As well as offering lessons for all ages, Crescendo provides many opportunities for enrichment including: chances to perform, be in a band, learn about songwriting and even try out digital music production.
Wonderful staff and caring, talented instructors. What more could you ask for
This is our first year at crescendo. We tried it out based on many excellent reviews on FB. The reviews were right. The front end staff is awesome. Jordan is so pleasant and helpful. I have spoken to the owner a few times and she was so helpful and accommodating. My son will be returning. And I am considering taking lessons myself. My son is in guitar. Highly recommend.
The air conditioning never works in this place and it is very hot to the point where it is uncomfortable. Teachers are ok though.
Absolute disaster. Childs group have to learn katy pery song roar. at age of 8!!!. I do have questions dit this instructor have any degree or licence to be a instructor. Instead of learning real music blues, rock, he forced kids to learn this … sssss
They lie about there hours
8. Long & McQuade Musical Instruments
Address: 6633 118 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T5B 0P1, Canada , Sherwood Park , Alberta , Canada
One of the biggest L&M I ever visited in Edmonton. I can stay all day here!, the place is huge, clean, well organized and the the staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. I came home with new Epiphone Sheraton Pro II semi hollow electric guitar and Epiphone Viola Bass guitar Fantastic guitar. I grabbed the opportunity of 0% interest for a year. now, I have two of my favorite guitars to play.
Very friendly people, great prices and amazing inventory. I truly suggest.
Customer service was exceptional from Carissa,
she was helpful knowledgeable, also going above and beyond to help us.
Great selection. Good prices. Good staff.
Have bought many guitars here, good service, reasonable price, there are cheaper places and they don’t price match, but beautiful store.
A unique shop with a good variety of guitars
I was told that Axe music carries a tonne of musical instruments and accessories. I was hopeful they would carry a specialty piece for my violin for an affordable price. We came in from out of town, about a 45minute – 1hr drive one way. I wanted to make this an easy-shop trip, and the staff made it even easier. I immediately walked in and asked one of the 4-5 people sitting behind the counter (seemingly doing nothing) and asked where their violin section is (I’ve never seen a music store that didn’t sell at least basic violin accessories) one girl pointed to an area behind us, but as we turned to look, everyone else behind the counter chimed in and told us flat out they don’t carry violins or accessories. It was incredibly rude. The one girl seemed new so it makes sense if she wasn’t sure on all the inventory. However, the other people did NOT have to blurt out so rudely as they did. ONE person handling one customer is fine enough. They could have told me about some other places that might carry what I am looking for or even see about ordering the part in. They clearly felt like they didn’t need me as a customer as I was barely in the store for 30 seconds before turning around and walking back out. Extremely unprofessional behaviour and a result of poor management and training. That is the first and last time I am ever setting foot in that store again. My score isn’t 1/5 stars, it’s 0/5.
Went in for a 4x headphone amp and a cable and adapter. They had the amp, but I could not find a cable that I needed nor were the staff able to help me and they were pretty dismissive. Their return policy is a joke, seriously. The place and location leave a lot to be desired. I’m not going back there. I see no reason to choose Axe over, say, L&M, and if you need a luthier there are plenty of good local ones.
Granted they are a warm blanket compared with Avenue Guitar (on Whyte).
Incidentally, I have always been treated top notch in L&M and whatever they lack in terms of stock they are happy to get it for me, even if it’s not in their catalog.
Rick. You know what you need? You need a door greeter. Someone who has a smile and says “Hello, can I help you with what you are looking for?”
and when I tell them what I’m looking for they can point me in the right direction to the next person who is smiling or looks to be interested in making sure I have the best experience possible while I shop. Or if I’m mingling looking around for goodies that I don’t need but will buy, that there is someone that is paying attention and can talk about how great the product is or introduce me to the next best item that would suit my needs. BTW I’m sure one of your sales people intentionally had me avoid a dutch auction item…either for profit or so they can scam it. Annoyed. Let me tell ya…I’m all about the positive experience and your store is great upstairs (guitars and amps) but this downstairs is just poor. If I wasn’t good at my trade and in demand I would take welfare wages and work your downstairs for about 6 months just to show these guys how to treat people. I don’t even need to know anything about your junk and your reviews would be pumping..

Talented musicians, who really know how to ‘strike a cord’ in everyone’s hearts and provide genuine entertainment – their fundraiser for refugees show was both touching and so much fun for all
I attended a fundraiser for refugees in 2021 where this talented group performed. Hammerstring provided exceptional talent with excellent interaction between the musicians that delivered humour woven into beautiful music. The time flew by enjoying this highly skilled group. Definitely recommend Hammerstring!
The Hammerstrings are fantastic! We hosted an event “music by the candlelight” style and it was great! The interaction with the public and the selection of songs was perfect!

THEY SHOULD OF ALWAYS HAD ONE HERE ITS ABOUT TIME LOVE IT GREAT STAFF FRIENDLY
Small store but the service is good.
Best customer service we got phone really fast we are very happy with Navjot/Navdeep can’t remember her name but she is perfect.❤️❤️
Best place to buy electronic products
I went here to get a set of BT headphones and got great help from staff on choosing something that was at a great price and new to the market. Cleer headphones with noise canceling. Will try them out soon. Reviews look promising. Thank you.
First visit of this new store. First impression: the store is very small. We were greeted by two employees. We told them what we were looking for, but one of them couldn’t give us the answer. It was very confusing. She told us that they might have what we were looking for on a display but then disappeared to the back. After few minutes we realized that there is obviously no display model to look at and also noticed that the employee was behind a counter looking at her phone so we left.
very small not much product or demos. no bathroom. would not recommend going.
I think some of their prices are high for at least their low end laptops. A laptop with a CPU 4 generations old (I3 series 9 years old) was on sale for 500 dollars. Regularly just over 600 dollars. I think that is unrealistic pricing.
Bought a watch. No display model. Staff didn’t know much. Thankfully I knew exactly what I wanted. Yikes.
14. Myhre’s Music
Address: 8735 118 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T5B 0T2, Canada , Sherwood Park , Alberta , Canada
New favorite music store. So friendly and welcoming. Everything a real music store should be. Thank you guys. See you again soon.
This is an amazing store, not just for their selection of high quality instruments, but also for their friendly and knowledgeable staff. The customer service here is the best I’ve ever experienced, and I highly recommend it to any music-lover.
Very knowledgeable, kind and safe! Highly recommended.
Knowledge of these guys was a real help when picking out a new violin for my oldest daughter. After going here no need to go anywhere else
Had a great time shopping at Myhre’s. In no time at all, their service department had my wife’s fiddle performing much better with little cost incurred.
Knowledgeable and friendly staff
Have been familiar Myhres Music since The 60s nothing but good things to say about this family business and their knowledge of the instrument they sell will always support them
Well I could not get in under my own account so my wives name is up.
I have been going to this store for about 10 years and have recommended it many times for the reason others have stated.
So the one star comes from my past two trips to the store. About 6 months ago i was into Edmonton from 3+ hours north. I was shopping for a older guitar so naturally I went there since I have purchased from them before. There was different staff and during this experience I was left with wanting to go elsewhere to find an instrument.
Fast forward to the 10th and I planned another trip to the store. Yet again I left again no impressed. I brought two guitars, one of which was purchased there in 2017. One was newer and the price given left me wanting a second opinion. The second was about 20 percent higher on the trade value. That left a bad taste . Secondly was a much higher price Acoustic from the early 70s. Even in the “poor” condition I was informed it was in, it was still appraised at over five thousand and was informed with a little work it would be worth much more. I was in the market or another fine instrument so I played some there and went back to the hotel and thought about it. SO going back with the information and being told I should expect 80 percent of the appraisal on trade in I went back. After deciding what I liked he reran the numbers and now the number was down below sixty percent of the appraised value. Surprised I asked why the difference? I was Informed they need to make money! Slightly annoyed I packed up my guitar, voiced my opinion to the young salesman, said have a good day to the older gentleman that I purchased my other guitar from and left.
I doubt I will ever return as during my search I have discovered numerous smaller music shops in the area.
As the saying goes: Trust is hard to gain and easy to loose. Just my story.
My response to below.
Some of what you said is accurate. I was informed in the future that if I had work done, (700 to 1000), that the guitar would require a neck reset and bridge done. When shown how to check with a piece of paper, the paper did not go under the bridge. The neck is the same as when I bought it at your store in 2017. At that time there was zero mention of the neck or guitar for that manner needing work. Secondly I was given a trade in value of 3200 and some. It was under 3400, cannot remember exactly. Quick math was over a grand. Along with your other quotes on the second guitar and its value, I was left feeling like I was being taken advantage of.
Even with this experience I would still recommend others to go Myher’s music. As stated above. However I will also names of other small shops which I did not before.
Put a guitar on hold here assuring them I was going to buy it in a week, even offered to put money down but they said no need, they would call if anyone else was interested in it. When I came back it was sold and I received no phone call. Not a very good first experience.
Refixed the bridge on my Yamaha acoustic, glued up a brace I didn’t know was loose, feels like new.
Great shop. Great techs and staff
First time customer! Just had the fret ends shaved, leveled and the action lowered on my Breedlove 12 string, all done within the time frame quoted and at a very reasonable price. I won’t hesitate to bring my other acoustics here for future maintenance. Of course I had to check out the store while I was there. Great selection of acoustics. I highly recommend this store. Thanks to the luthier tech and the staff.
Great shop. Wide selection of guitars and other gear.
A good guitar store. also has lessons in music.
Cool shop with a nice selection of both new and unique vintage instruments. A real eye opener was the huge selection of hardware (bridges, tuning keys, etc) and electronic parts (pots, caps, jacks, switches, etc).
I walked out with a cool old Matsumoku Raven SG clone for a friend that’s going to be a restification project.
I was in the market to buy a new electric acoustic guitar. I shopped around at other music stores and found nothing to my satisfaction. When I went to Acoustic Music Shop, Brent was totally helpful and answered any questions I had. Suffice to say later that evening my wife and I returned and I purchased a new Art & Lutherie 12 string acoustic with a pickup that sounded unreal. Brent also gave me a huge discount because i picked up about 500 dollars of accessories.
I highly recommend the Acoustic Music Shop. I am a very satisfied customer.
Purchased an item from this shop on Reverb. Item was not what I needed (my own fault) and tried to initiate a return as per the policy listed on their Reverb page. No one ever responded to my message so now I am stuck with it. Be wary of purchasing from this shop especially if you are ordering online.
Dismissive, abrupt, and not very helpful. They wouldn’t fix my instrument because they deemed it “beyond repair”. I took to somewhere else and my instrument is running better than ever.
Very rude on the phone owner, and a filthy parking area, are not encouraging to use this business.

Had a great customer service from CORI and SEAN thanks a lot
Recently purchased a Yamaha keyboard for my son from this location and had Sean and Michael help me out. They were both very pleasant to deal with and also very patient while answering all our questions. Overall a very good experience and great customer service and we are very happy with the keyboard recommendation. Thank you Sean and Micheal for your awesome service.
A great experience with every staff member while renting, purchasing or requiring repair services
Un eventful
Customer service could use some work for sure.
Thumbs up. I like this place. I have no musical knowledge and they helped
You basically have to stand within 2 feet of a salesperson and force them to acknowledge you.
They made me wear a mask. They cant even explain “why” I have to wear one now… it’s been 2 years already. I want my freedom back please.
Other that, found what I needed and got out so that I can breathe again
Only about 4 of us customers in here and no sales staff to help. I see guys hiding behind monitors… Well done fellas.

Amazing guitar shop. I love the layout of the store, the products, the prices, the staff – everything. I hope they eventually get more inventory in as that is the only area I would say needs improvement.
Also – they were the ONLY place in Edmonton that would repair my bass.
“Doc” is one of Gibson guitars finest, specialist when it comes to repairing and restoring!Gave my dads Gibson 1956 ES 125 to my son and he took it to Stang guitars where Doc works and I got the chance to meet him and he explained in detail the work he had done to it in such a kind gentle professional manner. All the staff there are so friendly and nice and just a great atmosphere!GUITAR HEAVEN!!!
Excellent staff and store. Had my guitars worked on, very pleased with the workmanship. The staff made me feel like I was appreciated and respected. This is how a music store should be!
Quite a nice shop with an interesting selection.
Nicely set up shop. Definitely on the middle-high end for pricing, but some nice guitars in stock. Not for beginners, more of a place for intermediate and up musicians looking to get a serious instrument.
Great knowledgeable staff and a wide selection of guitars and equipment. Good guitar tech at the store as well.
I have been in there a few times and have found the atmosphere and staff snooty and not welcoming, pricing is also high. Reading through all the positive comments here I cant help but think they have all of their friends posting great reviews. Perhaps I missed something. No thanks.
Repair on guitar very good, customer response poor ,talk down too, as per warranty? Called PRS guitars they refunded the invoice from service with no issues just a hint do not put your personal opinion on work order
It’s sad that this is all that’s left of Avenue guitars, a staple in Edmonton. After the owner passed away Tyler picked through, took what he wanted and slapped his stupid name onto it. Get your nose out of the air..
20. Long & McQuade Musical Instruments
Address: 10832 82 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 2B3, Canada , Sherwood Park , Alberta , Canada
Small music store with everything you need. From string instruments to wind instruments to books to rentals. They have it all with OK prices
Great!!
Bought guitar strings here, and the went above and beyond and cleaned up my guitar and attached the strings aswell. The staff was very friendly, and helpful.
Good veriety and service
So e locations lack customer service and it’s made it 4 stars because they have a great assortment of product.
Fantastic knowledgeable staff
Staff member wearing one of those weird face mask things didn’t seem very interested in talking pro audio after I asked him how I could get a good loud metronome sound. He seemed like he could care less about selling me anything at all after I expressed an interest in purchasing some high powered monitors/speakers. Maybe he was judging my appearance because it may appear to others that I don’t have any money. Anyways I went and bought a bass amp at a different music store on Whyte and plugged my metronome in to that. Wow! this is a great setup for a loud metronome that drummers require. Not a very good experience at this L&M, it felt like the staff member in question couldn’t wait to end our whole conversation.
Brutal. I was going to spend some money there but I was so turned off by the service I walked down the street to the other music store. Next time I will buy online.
Have to give this location a 1 star only because they never pick up the phone when you call them and going into the store seem like it’s hard to find help.. I guess I will order from Amazon..
