The action on my Martin was getting quite high that it was digging into my fingers. Rufus fixed the problem . I was quite happy with his work. Now I can play without pain.
Rufus is amazingly knowledgeable and very talented. Highly recommend him!
Amazing work and customer service! Definitely recommend!
Extremely rude over phone didnt even make it past introductions… ask what kinds of lessons they offered and got a “we do musical instruments, why?” Horrible customer service. I never write reviews ever but that experience should not happen.
5. STEPHENSON AMPLIFICATION INC.
Address: 1125 Dobler Rd, Parksville, BC V9P 2C5, Canada , French Creek , British Columbia , Canada
Claudio did a much-needed overhaul of my Pan American curvy a couple of years ago. The quality of materials he used was primo (black roo pads and stainless steel resos), and the workmanship was second to none. Although I don’t play soprano much, whenever I do play my curvy, I am always thrilled at how amazing this little horn plays now.
Claudio is an wonderful tech. If I lived on the Island, he would do all my saxophone work. He is an incredible tech, who does meticulous work.
Serious superb and very reasonable services from a dedicated musician.
11. Retro Zone Games
Address: 182 Island Hwy E, Parksville, BC V9P 0B1, Canada , French Creek , British Columbia , Canada
really awesome stuff here! i managed to snag some games ive been wanting to play since i was a kid, as well as a plush toy and a movie 🙂 the prices here are great and the guy that works here is really nice too!
Rad store, check out the hifi bits in the back. Tasty audio abound.
Awesome retro games store
I believe this is two separate business sharing the same space. It’s retro games and trading card games in the front and another store selling records and random antiques in the back. The game store has a nice mix of old collectables and new products. The store has a nice charm, but the tables and chairs needs upgrading. You need to ask for help, but when they do. They are friendly to chat with. If you enjoy my reviews, please check out my YouTube food channel!
awsome
Rude people. I’ve met much better people. I will probably not walk in Retro Zone anymore
Pays a quarter of what a game is even worth. So if you want Atleast 50 percent sell it your self don’t sell yourself short
Three people working, none of which acknowledged us entering the store. LPs are well overpriced. Seems they like to change their online name every so often so you think there’s a new music shop in town. Not sure if this is a pawn shop or not.

Want to paint?! This is the place to be! His method teaching, will surprise you with your results!
He is extremely patient, does one on one in the class of 8- 12. It really is a positive experience!
A lovely selection of unique paper and dies that I can not get elsewhere and a reasonable cost. Her service is excellent. It is always a pleasure to deal with Els.
wonderful, people immigrated from Holland, sing, teach piano, guitar, singing, painting. just a first class couple paul lacny march 9 2021
I have been taking painting classes for 4 months and am very pleased with the progress I’m making learning landscapes. This is an oil painting class and you work at your own pace, it has been very worthwhile.
13. Sylvan Temple Drums
Address: 1673 Grafton Ave, Errington, BC V0R 1V0, Canada , French Creek , British Columbia , Canada
The doumbek and the kanjira I purchased from Sylvan Temple are highest quality, hand-made drums. The smooth and precise tuning mechanism on both instruments is a bonus. These are keeper instruments. Gorgeous wood working and each instrument unique. At prices comparable to mediocre factory-made items, why would I buy anywhere other than Sylvan Temple?
I just bought a lovely, beautifully made kanjira drum from Robin at Sylvan Temple Drums, and I am so happy about it! The drum sounds, looks and feels wonderful, and the price was reasonable for a handmade instrument. Robin has been so helpful and quick to reply, ship and follow up. I fell in love with these drums after hearing two musical friends in Vancouver play Sylvan Temple drums(a kanjira and a bodhran). They had nothing but the highest praise for these drums, and I can add my kudos!

15. Vancouver Island Coastal Flutes
Address: 537 Chester Rd, Qualicum Beach, BC V9K 1C1, Canada , French Creek , British Columbia , Canada
September is an outstanding flute teacher! My daughter thrives under her instruction. She has lead so many students to reach outstanding achievements, as well as numerous award winning students. September’s experience in teaching is so exceptional, I highly recommend anyone try her and learn for themselves. They will quickly find that they are in the hands of a genius instructor.
September is a wonderful teacher who is very kind and giving to her students. She has a mountain of experience and really works with her students to find their best capabilities. She has trained with many of the greats and has taught in many capacities throughout her career. She is also great with beginners as well as other levels of abilities.
I have had the pleasure of team teaching with Dr. September Payne. She is knowledgeable, perceptive, and an inspiration to those that work and study with her. Her students play beautifully, musically and sensitively which is a testament to her ability to work with young people in a way that encourages and inspires. No matter your level, Dr. Payne, can help you achieve your goals. If you are a parent looking for a mentor for your child, someone who can instill good study habits in addition to a cultural experience, then this is your person! If you are an adult, you will find in Dr. Payne, an intellectual “equal” and friend. Her experience as a human being and a life lived as a musician is her greatest strength.
16. McMillan Arts Centre
Address: 133 McMillan St, Parksville, BC V9P 2H5, Canada , French Creek , British Columbia , Canada
All kinds of things going on in this vibrant community space – beautiful galleries, gift shop with unique finds, at least two performances a month, an ongoing variety of workshops, plus reasonable prices for room rentals. This place has it all! Add to that the friendly, welcoming atmosphere, and this is a place not to be missed. Bring your visitors here for a taste of local arts and culture!
Nice place
Love the concept in this building. Multiple studios, classes, and artists shows going on all at once. Would like to see a music act one time as well. The only complaint is that it does get warm in those old buildings
Funky shop….went to pick up tickets for a show down at the bandstand on the 27th
17. Long & McQuade Musical Instruments
Address: 620 Comox Rd, Nanaimo, BC V9R 3J3, Canada , French Creek , British Columbia , Canada
I have been dealing at the Nanaimo store for a good many years and have been served by some good people over time but, recently, I’ve been dealing with Lindsay Ward ( Assistant Manager ) That woman is outstanding / professional / caring / sensitive to a person’s needs, goes the extra mile etc! Truly the right person in the right job!
Further to this review, Lindsay is no longer with the organixation ( June 13, 2023 )
George Edwards
Nanaimo
Just got the best service here and exactly what I was looking for, Mike was super helpful and really went the extra mile to ensure I got everything I needed! Thank you!!
Great equipment selection and very knowledgeable staff
Great knowledge and options.. one of the best stores in the business
Helpful staff but selection of sheet music seems pretty limited.
Took 3 separate visits to get 1 new symbol for a drum kit. Not a single person, even though we asked multiple times, multiple people, and at each visit, told us the correct information and made sure we left with everything we would need. Asked at first purchase, was assured we had everything, surprise surprise we didn’t so we go back and order the missing piece and ask if this is it, again we are assured yes. Wait weeks for the new piece and get home to find once again we don’t have everything. When we called and explained what we still needed they assured us they would have it and it would be free. But nope. They had no idea, again, what we were talking about, and so we had to spend more money to get the last piece. Finally we have everything to add it to the kit, at a ridiculous cost financially and in terms of time and energy wasted. Tom Lee Music Nanaimo will have new customers from us after this disaster.
Decent music store, not too crazy about the staff. Some pretty rude staff members here.
Staff is not the most knowledgeable of the long and mcquades I have been too, and after years of being a repeat customer I’m tired of being treated poorly because the staff is new. I highly recommend checking out other places in town and not here. No respect and little knowledge.
