Micheal is an incredible guitarist who contributed greatly to my most-recent release. He truly brought my song to life and I would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a session guitarist! So so talented!
Excellent and speedy service. Thanks for being awesome. Highly recommend.
MB Guitars has provided me with the best work I’ve ever received on my instruments. The attention to detail and the care invested in each instrument is amazing. I can’t recommend them enough!
3. Long & McQuade Musical Instruments
Address: 1717 Bedford Hwy, Bedford, NS B4A 1G2, Canada , English Corner , Nova Scotia , Canada
The staff was extremely helpful in selecting guitars.
They have great collection of musical instruments and equipments
There are few places you can walk into and every customer is happy. I always see big smiles and everyone having fun here. My son and I both have taken advantage of the great lesson programs and routinely choose here first for anything musical. Great people, great store.
They were very helpful and friendly and made renting an instrument very easy! Thank you guys.
Staff is helpful and knowledgeable. Good selection of products.
Great service and friendly staff. Great selection of instruments and equipment. I would recommend this store.
Come here to buy new item but got returned item
We were there 30 min and no one came to help us so we left.
I’ve been going to this L&M location for years. I can count on one hand how many times I was treated well by the staff at this location. The good staff members are amazing, thoughtful, friendly, and warm. However, in my experience, more often than not, I get talked to with disrespect, condescension, and rudeness. I’m a pretty even-keeled person, but I was in there for less than five minutes today returning a product and somehow I still got treated with rudeness and disrespect. Hope you guys can clean up the act, but other than the very few good employees, I will NOT be returning to this location again.
You snooze you loose!! Closed Sunday….. I work 6 days a week! You can’t find a student or person that needs money to open Sunday? Either way! Got my item on Amazon while sitting in your parking lot lol!! One day this chain will be gone, sad!
4. East Coast Entertainment.Ca
Address: 98 Old Mill Rd, Hammonds Plains, NS B3Z 4M3, Canada , English Corner , Nova Scotia , Canada
Great staff: not on commission, and they’re all working musicians. Rental rates are crazy low.
Very helpful and knowledgeable
Great service! Update: Popped in to pick up a few things, turns out that there were some account issues (misspelled name etc) – Kudos to Brandon for his patience and getting it sorted! Bought some more stuff too
Had a couple of really good experiences here. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to pass on helpful information. The prices are pretty good, too.
Decent music store. However if you’re into vintage instruments, don’t even bother. Good spot for 2nd hand pedals.
Despite a 30-day return policy, they will penalize you by placing you under a re-stocking fee arrangement that negates the return policy if you return too many of items — “too many” is at their discretion. I find the staff knowledgable but some of them come off stand-offish and arrogant unless you’re buying something really expensive. Most musical equipment you’ll want/need to try before buying; the healthy selection of in-store items and the rental department is helpful for that.
I’ve had both positive and negative interactions with this store but ultimately being the only viable place in town they keep getting my business. I’ve dealt with some of the US chains like Guitar Center and I’ve found them to be more “user friendly” and willing to negotiate on price. Overall, it’s a decent spot but try it before you buy it (via the rental department if you can); don’t buy it and return it and stick to in store items lest you find yourself ostresized.
Received very poor customer service here. I placed an order of almost two thousand dollars. They kept backing my order until it was delayed for nine months. Most frustrating part was that they kept on making empty promises about my order coming in. I am highly unsatisfied with the service here and it has left a sour experience. I am a full time teacher and performer. I often refer my students over to L&M, but after this experience I am hesitant to refer anyone over.
Bad customer service. Would never purchase from them again.
Very disapointed. I ordered a piano without being told it was a floor model. I probably would have bought it anyway even it is a floor model. They only started to offer me a 5% discount when I started questioning about the product and the fact that I wasn’t being told it was a floor model. Some of the staff were very arrogant. Overall, very disappointed!!!
8. Select Sounds
Address: 1475 Bedford Hwy, Bedford, NS B4A 3Z5, Canada , English Corner , Nova Scotia , Canada
Very good prices on physical media, but not the best selection if you’re not looking for music. Not the owners fault, as it seems like their inventory largely depends on what items people give them.
Was so excited to see so many titles from the 70’s and 80’s for their movie selection and tv box sets!!
Very small store but it had an amazing selection. Worth stopping in.
WHY WHY WHY does the owner insist on piling mountains and mountains of stock floor-to-ceiling, making it impossible to move or find anything? Why is 95% of the vinyl sitting in dark cabinets on the floor? Why is there enough stock to fill a store three times as big in such a tiny space? I’ve been coming to SS every time I’m in the city for over 25 years, and it just keeps getting worse as a customer experience. I know for a fact that there’s plenty of quality to be found at fair prices, but it’s nearly impossible to browse or even move around if there are more than three people in the store. I could easily drop a few hundred dollars on any given visit, but I usually just end up walking out, frustrated that absolutely zero effort has been put into making a good customer experience. BOOOOO!
Very crammed, not organized. Bunch of boxes all around filled with CDs and DVDs and most of the vinyls are all on the bottom underneath the CDs and hard to reach, you have to kneel down to get anything. I don’t know if they’re moving things around, rearranging or if it’s just the way it is. Not a good experience overall cause I couldn’t find anything in there.
Pretty good selection, but the owner is a smug tool who wants to impose his unsolicited opinion. I usually deal with Dave, who is a very nice guy. He let’s me play records before I buy and always says that I can exchange a record if I’m not satisfied. I recently spent $70 on three records, but decided I wasn’t satisfied with how one of them sounded. I brought it in today to exchange for another and the owner gives me a blank stare and proceeds to explain that my expectations are too high, that I’m looking for perfection, and that I should buy CDs instead because they don’t have any background noise. I’ve spent a lot of money at this shop and have only exchanged three records to my knowledge, plus I was there to spend even more money on a new vinyl. It was one of the most bizarre interactions I’ve ever had, and he demonstrated a complete lack of customer service and self-awareness. Unfortunately, it seems that so many record shop owners are grumpy, jaded guys who have no interpersonal skills and want to constantly remind customers that they are more knowledgeable about vinyl.
Jon Cyr is an amazing performer, singer and entertainer. His voice and acoustics on the guitar are absolutely fantastic and he has a way to captivate the crowds he plays for! Highly recommend him for any public or private show.
We hosted Jon Cyr at the Bras D’Or Lakes Inn, St.Peters September 28th he was amazing from start to finish had our guests on their feet dancing all night we look forward to having him again!
Jon is true professional. We hired him for our wedding, and he was fantastic. He handled all our music needs throughout the day. From cuing and playing all the ceremony songs to entertaining our guests with his amazing voice and guitar skills before and after dinner. He picked some great background music during dinner. The levels were perfect, and we could still each other talk. He turned into a great DJ and kept the party going later into the evening. He was incredibly organized and so much fun to work with. Hire Jon, you won’t be disappointed! Thank you Jon Cyr!
Very good music
10. Long & McQuade Musical Instruments
Address: 124 Main St, Dartmouth, NS B2X 1R9, Canada , English Corner , Nova Scotia , Canada
What a joy it was to purchase my Grandaughters first guitar here. The Staff took the time and patience to fit her with the perfect acoustic. Fit was more important than price and it was evident. The Staff had as much joy in assisting as she did in choosing. What a great exprience to see a
year old feel that special and smile with delight.
We recently held a wedding at a local event space (Mic Mac Amateur Aquatic Club) and decided to curate our own playlist instead of hiring a DJ or band. The staff at Long & McQuade made excellent suggestions on sound and light equipment based on the size of the space, the number of guests, and the “vibe” we were going for. The service at the Dartmouth store was top notch, from first call, to the in-person meeting to reserve to equipment, to picking up equipment, to dropping off equipment. We would highly recommend people considering using rental sound and light equipment in place of a DJ; we saved ourselves hundreds of dollars! FYI, if you consider this route versus a DJ, I also attribute our good experience to the facts that we used Spotify for the playlist, (we chose it because of the “cross fade” option), that we put some of our own sweat equity into choosing the right songs and the right order, and the that we have some friends who supported us in set up and starting and stopping at key moments.
Beautiful store and nice people. Just got my guitar setup by them and she’s now perfect. Service was quick and efficient.
Just popped in to see what they had for vocal microphones.Helpful and knowledgeable.
Had what needed helpful stagg
Not stocked with enough variety..slow service, lots of chit chatting
Terrible salesman acted like he either didn’t want to, or didn’t have time to talk to me. Just seemed eager to go elsewhere. Will not be going back.
Ive been in here countless times before hand looking at gear and the staff have always been super friendly, except for this time. After researching online about rentals and not needing a credit card the manager i spoke to, Wayne, looking to rent some gear for a school function was very condescending and talked to his staff like they were dirt while i was waiting in line. Im an adult and id expect to be spoken to like one, not like a child. If youre ever in here, avoid Wayne Hunt as much as possible.
Very poor customer service,After buying a katana mini amp from this store i went to buy a martin x series, cause the store was about to close they just sold the guitar to me with the dead old strings and gave a new pack saying you can change it,also with a cheap soft case saying later you can buy a hardcase.(assuming i am just a kid to buy the guitar from my dads pocket or have no idea about it being of a different color skin).sadly i came home and did change the guitar strings thinking its new strings buzz and that got more worse as time passed.Which means none of them even care to see whether the setup was right or not, instead store staff just wanted to get away with this and make me leave the store.I am glad i purchased my fender player strat from L&M halifax store at cunnard street they provide excellent customer service.
11. Doctor Piano
Address: 1658 Bedford Hwy Unit 20, Bedford, NS B4A 2X9, Canada , English Corner , Nova Scotia , Canada
Even after entering and making it clear that I did not have the money purchase a new piano from them, Yvon and the rest of the staff were incredibly friendly and let my try out some of their pianos. I came seeking information, as I am in the market for a used piano and Yvon took an hour out of his day to answer all my questions, and share his knowledge and years of experience with me. The service surpassed my expectations, I learned a lot and it was a great experience. I will definitely, be using their services for inspections, moving or tuning when I find the right piano.
Amazing showroom
I love these folks and plan to purchase my first brand new piano from them ❤️
12. Mk Woodwinds
Address: 179 Millstone Ct, Lucasville, NS B4B 1X7, Canada , English Corner , Nova Scotia , Canada
I am new to Nova Scotia and so I asked my fellow woodwind players where they get their instruments repaired. Over and over, folks recommended Marius. In the past 2 years, Marius has worked on two of my instruments and I am very happy with the result.
A great service and professional.
Marius did a fantastic restoration of a saxophone from the 1920s. He gave it its voice back
13. Halifax Folklore Centre
Address: 1528 Brunswick St, Halifax, NS B3J 2G2, Canada , English Corner , Nova Scotia , Canada
You won’t find this kind of selection anywheres east of Montreal
Went here a couple months ago, very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Also a very interesting shop, lots of trinquettes and antiquities. I was browsing the banjo’s when one of the employees came over for a short jam session. Can’t remember the name, but had a great time here! Thanks guys!
Absolutely the best experience I’ve had shopping for an instrument. Knowledgable and friendly staff (Noah was the person who assisted me, but everyone there was great.) Beautiful instruments line nearly every surface of this wonderful store and I look forward to spending too much money there. 6/5
Great learning institution
This is a frequent stop for me when I am in the neighborhood and I have a little time on my hands. You never know what surprises you are going to find hanging up on the walls. The staff are knowledgeable and easy to talk with.
Just stopped in to buy some strings and was amazed buy the selection of vintage gear. I chatted with the staff for a while and got a lot of good tips. Very knowledgeable, very friendly.
Have you ever been in that situation where a store says you can either cut them a blank cheque or they can’t help you? I brought my instrument to the Folklore Center to have a nut installed. I cracked mine a few days earlier, removed it, cut up a piece of an old bank card to wedge under which stopped the buzzing and brought the instrument back to life. The tech literally looked at it for two seconds before saying I would need a full setup: bridge, nut, truss rod, possibly more. I said no, please just replace the nut. He replied, ‘no, the strings are too high at the nut. I can only do the nut if I do a full setup.’
Next time, guys, actually look at the instrument before you trying upselling someone. I learned how to set up my instruments studying double bass performance at university. I only called because it would have been easier to pay someone else to do it. I bought a blank and left, I’ll never go back.
My experience was not warm and comfortable in the least. Folklore was recommended to me by a few of my musician friends, Folklore were the people that would help me with parts for my Bass rebuild. They would listen and work with me to get the parts that worked for me.
Well it certainly didn’t feel that way. I explained to the clerk that i was rebuilding and that it didn’t matter about exact matches. That i could work with my parts and what they might have available. With out getting into recitals here, I was told I don’t understand not once but several times. (I might not be a Luthier, i am also not ignorant when it comes to guitars) The clerk was not really listening to what i had to say or was trying to accomplish. it appeared he had already formed an opinion and my input didn’t matter anymore, After being told i don’t understand for the last time. I bidded him good day and left.
Now here is the kicker, Right after i left the store, I called to speak with the owner, I began to explain that i was in and had a bad experience, he immediately cut me off to support his clerk “again” telling me i don’t understand. I never even had a chance to voice my feelings about the matter. After explaining to the owner that he just did the same that his clerk did. NOT LISTEN! I finally got to tell him how disappointed i was..
I am sure they might have been able to help me and that their knowledge certainly exceeds mine. But they forgot to keep the customer in the mix!
Sorry but i will not be recommending this vendor!
Sincerely
Thomas
14. Taz Records Bedford
Address: 1239 Bedford Hwy, Bedford, NS B4A 1C5, Canada , English Corner , Nova Scotia , Canada
Awesome place to get quality vinyl, highly recommended. My only complaint is the first time I visited the guy working was clearly not caring at all about what was going on in the store, he was studying a novel (highlighting sentences) and didn’t really own it, if you know what I mean. I should add, the second time I visited the long haired bearded fine fellow who helped me was very engaging , commented on my Steely Dan purchase with positive enthusiasm! Overall awesome store in Bedford.
Great staff and selection of vinyl
Good selection of CDs!
Awesome atmosphere, great selection of both old and new records.
Lots of options
Great Selection of new & used CD’s, LP’s. next to no parking sadly for out-of-towners.
Seems like since HMV closed that they have put their prices up. The staff here are not friendly and seem like they hate their jobs. I have started to just buy online now.
Every time I’ve been in its been a different staff member but always the same cold shoulder (No Hello) and the times I’ve asked questions whether its price or looking for a record they seem annoyed?
Just like last time, I was met with dismissive and disinterested customer service. Not another soul in the store, but a real unwelcoming environment. No music playing (??), just buddy and his computer. Did not even want to browse. I’ve been to dozens of stores across North America. This one ranks the absolute worse. I’ll never be back.
15. Shierwood Instruments
Address: Highway 215 Hants County, Union Corner, NS B0N 2A0, Canada , English Corner , Nova Scotia , Canada
I called Bryce Holland himself after getting quoted $2900 to fix my surround sound speakers. Bryce came in and immediately did 5x the inspection that the other company did and he found the issue after just 10 minutes. In the end it costed me $155 as opposed to $2900.
Not to mention, Bryce was a very nice guy and seemed very passionate about his line of work and customer service.
I very highly recommend this company and Bryce. Great people and even better service!
Bryce Holland and his team at Holland Audio Productions looked after the entire audio production for Mosaic Festival 2020 in the Halifax Waterfront, Nova Scotia (Canada). They were always diligent and professional. Together with Atlantic Live Stream, for the video recording and streaming, they offered high quality work that made the six hours of the event a success, both for the people attending in person and for those following online.
