Very friendly staff gino was a delight thank you for tuning my violin!
I recorded my entire album here I absolutely adore this place. The owner Gino is a great person who provides a great atmosphere inside his store. There’s multiple practice spaces along with a recording studio. The sound engineer is extremely friendly and encouraging as well. There’s a variety of beautiful instruments and equipment/accessories sold here. Highly recommend to anyone. Kid friendly
owner is chill, cool store
Is alright for a music store. The staff was very friendly. However would not recommend for repair guitar there, it was a bit over price for the work and technical staff. Drum stuffs were expensive than other places.
I called for information and Gino was very helpful. Went in to set up a lesson and again was pleased with the nice customer service. I will agree with an earlier reviewer who explained that shopping from a local, small business owner sometimes means you pay a little more than a big box store. I personally am happy to pay extra to see a local business thrive.
A little boring for a music store
I will never come back again to this store. If you want to return something you will be disappointed for sure. There is no REBATE policy in the store. The stuff will only smile at you when you buy things, not at the time you ask for rebate. They never tell you that you can`t rebate until you come back for a return. They can give you a GIFT CARD ONLY in 7 days after your purchase. I would suggest people to find another store to buy your things.
Extremely overpriced. Avoid this store if you can.
Advertises prices they wont honor and products that aren’t in stock to get you in the store to try a bait and switch with a “deal” on a product nobody should buy (line 6 spider for example). Coupled with no returns, so you’re stuck with something you were pressured to buy on the spot.
Also a music store with signs telling you not to touch a $200 import beginner guitar without asking isn’t the vibe of a store that puts musicians first.
At the beginning of the pandemic, I was looking to upgrade from my previous piano. I decided to purchase the Kawai CA79 but soon after order, I was informed that the production was temporarily stopped due to a chip shortage. The store owner was very accommodating and allowed me to upgrade my purchase to the CA99 at a reasonable cost.
A couple months after delivery and I am very happy with my purchase of a new Kawai CA99. In-store experience was very accommodating and pleasant. Staff was friendly and worked well to understand the type of instrument that I was looking for. Overall, I could not have asked for a better piano shopping experience. Cheers.
Andre helped me buy my first digital piano and he displayed a tremendous amount of passion for pianos that made me very confident in my choice. He even offered to deliver the piano himself to my home and help me set it up. If I ever need another piano (hopefully an acoustic one this time) I wouldn’t hesitate to go back there. Awesome piano store and staff!
Very pleased with my Kawai piano
purchase. Researched Kawai other digital piano options watching youtube videos from Merriam Music. Called Andre and he was very responsive, enabling me to try Kawai and Roland offerings. Drawbacks are with Kawai (and not with Capital Keyboards). Kawai does not allow consumer visibility into pricing until you walk into a store and ordering process is slow. I didn’t know for 24 hours whether inventory is available or not. Minor point.. the bench is pretty uncomfortable and I don’t use it, but might be okay for a young kid.
Great pianos, great service. Knowledgeable staff
Spectacular place to learn music
teachers do not give enough attention. staff is pleasant but overall poor experience with my grandchild
3. The ODDs & SODs Shoppe
Address: 1400 Clyde Ave. Unit 8, Nepean, ON K2G 3J2, Canada , Nepean , Ontario , Canada
Great selection of new albums. Used selection limited
Great staff, great customer service
Excellent prices, passionate staff, well organized selection, and a great loyalty program! I’ll be back ❤️
Good deals and selection on movies, CDs and records
Great vinyls store & more, brings me back when these stores were all over town!
great selection.. However so overpriced.. But they most likely have what you want and are very Organized.
Staff isn’t helpful at all. Prices are too high. Cant see this place being around for many more years.
I Brought some movies in to sell and a few were missing when i got them back. Wont deal with them again!
I went in with dvd”s and CD’s and they were going to accept my stuff for cash but I forgot my ID…Went back a few months later with the EXACT same stuff and they told me it was with nothing…ok so a few months ago it was worth money? this should be illegal
Amazing selection of used vinyl with a nice touch of new releases
Excellent store! Best in Ottawa and large stocks. I know a lot of people are saying that there expensive and overpiced. Come on stop complaining if you want to buy it or not. For me I have my limits on what I want to buy or not. My advice is bring a wand of cash with you.
David and the staff are very helpful and I always have great conversations about music. I started going here in 2005 and been shopping every since. Legends has made me get into all kinds of music for example Frank Zappa and other obscure stuff. Staff is 10/10 always say “hello, can I help you?” , very welcoming atmosphere. Pierce is one of the most positive person I ever meant and really welcomes people. He loves to sing in the store for sure.
The thing I really like is the deals they have. I can spend days here and buy thousands of records, tapes, and CD’s. But I’d be broke if I went every week.
I have been to all 3 of their locations on Wellington, Lincoln Fields and Hazledean Mall.
Great store!! Keep up the business guys!!
Friendly and informed staff. Selection has dwindled since they moved locations but still my favourite source for LPs in the city.
Great store for picking up some records. Store well organized and they’ll tour you around if you can’t figure it out for yourself. Friendly staff, quiet off the main street location. Recommended.
Not a bad vinyl shop, a lot of new and old stuff
What the hell happened to this Record Shop ?, a previous “legend” in Ottawa Record. shopping the new location made me feel like I’m shopping a run down flea market, horribly setup and half the bins are empty. One less Record Store stop next time I crate dig my way through Ottawa
#RecordShop
#RecordStore
Insanely overpriced. Many times I have purchased used LPs from the Wellington location for $20, $25, $30 only to subsequently find the same records at the Turning Point, Vertigo or the Record Center for $5, $7, $10 in comparable or better condition. Do yourself a favour and check elsewhere before you waste your money here. The Record Center is the best place in this city for used LPs and its only ten minutes away.
The most expensive used record store in the city. This is that place people people go to when they first get in to vinyl because they have no idea how much used records should cost. This is the only place you’ll find Abba or Phil Collins for over $15 dollars….
Good prices, huge store, staff are super knowledgeable. Great music store.
Sales people are very knowledgeable. I particularly go to Brent for information and sales.
Great selection and even greater staff, John is insanely knowledgable about all things guitar and if he doesn’t know the answer to a question he sure knows where to find it, I don’t think I’ve ever experienced that level of personal attention and understanding while shoping for anything. John made sure that I was armed with the information I needed to make an informed decision I was happy with and his input was invaluable, he also seemed just as excited about checking out and testing the guitars as I did. Even though I encountered minor issues with my purchase the staff was super accomidating and assisted to the best of their ability to find a suitable solution that I couldn’t be happier with. All-in I’d say if you’re new to musical instruments or a pro this is the place to go, I just can’t get over the level of care about their customers these guys have.
I live in the area and go to this place every now and then just to browse the guitars being a guitar player to see if there are any good deals or nice guitars on display. Recently I have been getting into keyboard stuff and drums more so… I’m only 14 but have a wide knowledge of different instruments and play lost of different instruments. I have been coming here frequently over the last couple weeks looking at the keyboards and helping a friend choose a guitar to buy for himself. The staff is awesome and one of the sales people helped tremendously with picking a guitar. As I was playing on one of the pianos to see the different sounds and specs another sales person interrupted and was very rude saying I can’t come in and play the instrument for 30 minutes and play the same song just because I came in 4-5 days prior and had played the same song on a different keyboard when I was simply checking out everything and seeing if anything new was here from the last time I had came days prior to this.
Great choices
Slow service but nice guy
Lots of great gear but one member of the sales staff was very rude to me. I was looking for a new release guitar that has been available at select retailers since November. When asked if they had this item he laughed at me and said that we are only a few days into the new year. He clearly wasn’t aware that it was released in November and was very condescending and treated me like I was the idiot.
This used to be my go to place . On the weekend brought a friend with me she was interested in vocal effects. The sales guy helping her was great . Explained things, hooked her up and let her try it. She liked it a lot but as she just started looking not ready to buy yet. Another sales staff interrupted the conversation and started with guilt trip and lots of pressure to buy right away. He was incredibly rude . Needless to say she didn’t buy it and has no intention of every buying anything there and I will not be returning there again either.
Very sad way to run a business.
Brought a keyboard in to be looked at. Paid $40. They estimated 1 month. 3 months later, they hadn’t looked at it. They kept the $40, too.
An extremely welcoming and comfortable atmosphere . Melly is a TOP notch engineer/producer/mixer and podcast host from what i know but i’m looking forward to see where golden vox is in a couple years . This could be the home to many big names and productions . Melly also recorded the video that got me noticed by Rick ross, Jag and more …this is just the start . STAY GOLDEN .

Great studio, great vibes, amazing service, very professional
Highly recommend
Incredibly professional studio experience and ambiance – Armel did a great job engineering the session. Thanks!
9. Stephen’s Music Store
Address: 568 Somerset St W D1, Ottawa, ON K1R 5K2, Canada , Nepean , Ontario , Canada
Matt is an exceptional clarinettist in both jazz and classical music. It’s been a privilege to work with him. He is a talented composer as well. I’m sure that as a music educator, his empathy and clarity make him exceptional.
Excellent teacher. My teenage son loved taking lessons from Matt. Highly recommend.
Matt is a very knowledgeable and great music teacher who isn’t short of experience. He listens well and tailors lessons to what you want. He’s passionate about music and teaching as well which makes lessons fun and interesting. I look forward to my weekly lessons with him.

Address: 1193 Hunt Club Rd, Ottawa, ON K1V 8S4, Canada , Nepean , Ontario , Canada
Was looking for a guitar. It was so nice to go in (masked of course) and try a few guitars. Decided on a Taylor Academy. Helpful staff!
Always a pleasure to visit this store. I’m there often to get whatever I need for my guitars, etc.
Miss their old location; this one is tucked away from the road so to speak. Staff are very friendly and helpful. They can materialize out of nowhere to see if you need anything. Large selection of guitars, basses, amps, drums, speakers etc. Also good if you need new guitar straps, picks and especially strings.
Overpriced, limited selection at this location. It’s a big box type music store, so I’ll review it as such. GREAT return policies – that’s a big win.
I was buying an expensive mic awhile back and I was stuck between two, and the guy helping me told me to buy them both and try them out and bring back whichever one I didn’t like. That is good service!
Don’t buy a guitar here. Or amp. You have better options everywhere else imho.
Salesmen tend to push specific products I’ve noticed, not necessarily based on whether they think they’re great or not.
Rental is straightforward and fair imho, good place to rent from.
They had what I wanted
I went back to get an interface today. I didn’t really know what I needed, but Mr Rigg was extremely friendly and helpful! He gave me options, and helped me make sure I left with what I needed. Thanks, you’ve changed my opinion on this store! 🙂
Dissatisfied. I have been to many L&M stores around the country and have bought thousands of dollars with the company. The Ottawa location is by far the worst for customer service. They were bad enough that I began making the 3 hour drive to Oshawa instead of the 45 minute drive to the Ottawa location. I would highly recommend going to the new Kanata location. The staff there is friendly and knowledgeable where as the staff that I have dealt with at the Ottawa location acted more like pompous jerks.
Awful customer service. I dropped off an expensive audio interface that was covered by their “performance warranty” for repair. They sat on it for nearly two weeks before doing anything. When I called, they said they were waiting for a response from the distributor. As it turns out, they hadn’t actually contacted the distributor, at all. When I asked why, the manager, Jim, got offended replied that it’s a busy store and things happen when they happen. Bottom line: you’re not a priority after you spend your money there. They’re willing to lie to customers to save face and I won’t be buying from them, again.
I have been buying gear from these guys for about 6 years now, last night I went to the Orleans store to purchase a mixer and microphone. I was totally dissatisfied with the service and couldn’t believe the lack of knowledge from the sales staff. This is the reason people buy from Amazon now and do their own research. Sad to say that after 40 plus years of buying local I now too will order From Amazon
Was in the store Sunday and i wanted to thank Chris for his helpful behavior that makes all the difference in a store like this one … we continue to shop because of people like him and their great clients service.
Helpful, informative about their options and what they can/cant get.
Love this place. Wide range of music, DVDs and merchandise.
Staff said “Hi” to me. Poor wife wasn’t asked. Just an “excuse me” when passing by.
Great selection of movies, TV shows and music
Been to this store before really nice people. Show up today and 9:02 am mall opens at 9am, and a sign that says back in 15 min is on the door.
May as well fully remove the “metal” section since it’s basically a shrine to Metallica and Slipknot/other light bands. Also not impressed that the “metal” sign is still up and that was there was Dungeons & Dragons merch
Whoever was working at the Bayshore mall today is miserable and obviously hates their job. Was going in to buy a bunch of records but went elsewhere instead (odds and sods on Clyde Ave). Won’t shop here again. Rude service.
Rude worker kicked me and 4 friends out of the store for little reason ?!
I hit my friend lightly with a stuffed animal they had in a large bin. Put it back right after. Just a reminder that I was not yelling, screaming, or breaking any merchandise. However when she saw this, she came up to us and said, “Time to leave”. I understand that maybe I wasn’t up to standard with ‘store etiquette’ but I wasn’t hurting or distracting any other customers or workers. If she had told me kindly to put it back I would have. Instead she said ,
“Stop looking at me like you’re a five year old and leave already”.
She was blonde and she looked 30 or older, and I didn’t catch her name. It was at the Bayshore location. I was planning on buying a record player for my 15 birthday today but I completely could not. She even made sure that we couldn’t go back in at all!? Im never going to that store again. If Sunrise record people see this they should actually start hiring workers up to standard.
13. Daredevil Discs
Address: 161 Greenbank Rd Suite 140, Nepean, ON K2H 5V6, Canada , Nepean , Ontario , Canada
Amazing Staff. Great costumer service and great prices for amps and guitars 🙂
J’adore cet endroit, très bon prix, TOM et GARY sont très gentil, je vous les recommande
I popped into Spaceman Music to get some new guitar strings, figuring I would bring my old ones to some musicians in Cuba when I go next (they always appreciate it). Anyhow, while I was there I asked the clerk if they had any old strings they might care to contribute to the cause. The guy said no, as they typically “cut” strings off when they change them. But, then he said “Hang on a second”. He went into a back room and returned with a full case of new-ish, ‘vintage’ Gibson strings and gave them to me for FREE. Too Cool! Gonna make for some happy pickers down south. Thanks, Spaceman!
I am certainly not in the ‘scene’. Just an old guy starting with his first guitar, but I thought the place was great! I couldn’t imagine going to a big fancy chain store in a mall with all new instruments. I got great help to pick out a semi-beginner guitar. I got enough advice to not buy crap that was not easily resold, but not to overspend on an expensive guitar until I was sure I was into it. (My guitar teacher was impressed with my guitar and the good price I paid for it) What I liked was that I was talking to real musicians and NOT pressure salesmen. I was free to goof around with instruments as much as I wanted without pressure. I would highly recommend the store.
I was looking for a good used amp that I saw online and managed to buy it. The experience was great.
If you know gear, this is a treasure trove.
Staff seems more interested in talking amongst themselves than helping customers. As for amp purchases ther -buyer beware.
Wouldn’t sell me a 4$ potentiometer unless they installed it.
Not very friendly, we knew more about the product than the employee, unwilling to negotiate. All an all unpleasant experience, wouldn’t recommend going here.
I received good advice and good services in this place.
Made my purchase in a short period of time.
Great choices, helpful staff
The layout of this store is awesome. Definitely worth a visit
The lad that helped me with a laptop was super helpful. It was very busy but he made time to help me and actually offered good advice and recommended a product that best suited my needs.
Great place to buy tech. But they dont have the dji mavic
Placed an online order on Black Friday for an iPad multiple times. Received a confirmation number each time, but while waiting for the confirmation email, the website flashed an item not available message and no confirmation email was received. I’ve either ordered three iPads or no iPads.
Ordered a curbside pick up, waited for over an hour. Went to the front door of the building where an employee asked me what I was doing. I replied I wanted to pick up an order. She then proceeded to tell me to text a number out in the parking lot. Zero customer service. I won’t ever shop there again.
We send our laptop for repair with BestBuy’s Geek Squad, they took 4 week and send us un repaired.
16. Metro Music
Address: 695 Bank St, Ottawa, ON K1S 3T8, Canada , Nepean , Ontario , Canada
Adorable little shop! The owners/staff were very helpful and nice to chat with
Still my favourite guitar and music equipment store. Service is second to none and their product lineup suits me down to the ground – all Canadian-made lines from Godin Guitars, which I’ve owned since 1987 and will continue to support. After the sale – same service. Recent failures of large music stores in Barrhaven make me wonder what they did wrong, but Danielle and the staff here make it well worth the drive, and restore my faith in – and support of – small business.
Unquestionably the best guitar shop in Ottawa. Unbeatable mix of expert knowledge, great products and friendly, caring service (and lessons).
It’s ok
over priced
expensive but very convenient
Prices are generally outrageous.
One of the cashiers was being rude and miserable towards me.
Always crowded and overpriced
17. The Cave Recording Studios
Address: 26 Caesar Ave #4, Nepean, ON K2G 0B2, Canada , Nepean , Ontario , Canada
Amazing establishment with great engineers who helped me achieve the perfect sound for my record. Studio A has a beautiful sounding control room and a perfectly isolated vocal booth to capture all your most emotional takes. I couldn’t recommend this studio enough. So grateful for this place.
Best engineers and such a chill environment. Keep it up guys fr.
Unbelievably wired experience.
Great quality work, overall satisfied with time spent
Its definately one of my fav studios in Ottawa. Young, hungry professionals who go above and beyond to satisfy your recording needs. Would recommend to any artist beginner or expert.
18. Lauzon Music
Address: 1345 Wellington St. W, Ottawa, ON K1Y 3B8, Canada , Nepean , Ontario , Canada
If I could give a 6/5 I would. Amazing guitar selections great sales support and excellent tech. This is an allround excellent place. AND everyone there is totally into music. Was a very refreshing experience. I drove 2 hrs from Kingston Togo here. I think that says something…
The service is incredible. I recently picked up a Martin 000-17 after having played it in store for what must have been two/three hours.
I would leave an extra star on top of this rating if I could.
Easily the best guitar store in town. The staff are always helpful, knowledgeable, and incredibly enthusiastic. I’ve always been encouraged to try anything and everything in the store, even when they know I won’t buy it.
That said, I’ve happily given this store plenty of my money, and will continue to do so as long as I’m playing guitar.
Great selection of high end gear, especially for Ottawa, but you’ll pay for it. Hard to negotiate with. It’s clear the calibre of people shopping at this store have more money than they know what to do with and these guys know it!
Understand what you’re buying, and from who, and you will be fine purchasing something from Lauzon.
Not an ideal shop for new guitar players because of the in-store return policy. While I do believe they need to do a better job of informing people about this before the sale, it’s a buyer beware world. Just know and ask about it before you buy.
The idea that Lauzon is more expensive in comparison to other shops is ridiculous. Compare the same models with other shops and you’ll see their pices are basically the same.
Nice store. Familial business. Parking available. I know they sale guitar because I’ve seen some in the back and they also have keyboard. But I was there looking for an upright piano. I had a wonderful experience and discussion with this young gentlemen name Ken. 😀 Very knowledgeable regarding the piano manufacturing in Canada and passionate about the piano he represents. I was impressed with the Seiler’s piano. I had previous bad experience with lower end Seiler. I came to the store because the website mentions that they represent Knabe piano. Unfortunately there was no upright on the floor. They were low on stock and are waiting for new arrivals somewhere late Fall. Covid repercussions I guess. What they had on the floor was a bit out of my budget. No because it didn’t worth it but I don’t have the talent to get the full potential out of it. There was no entry line model or maybe it was just the fact that they were out of stock.
Ordered online and was okay but they have no return policy
I’d rate them higher, but I called to scheduled 2 guitar set ups, was told waiting list was 2 months in September. Not a problem, I’ll wait. 2 months pass, I called again, was another 3 week wait. Well, it’s been over 5 months since I called. Let’s just say I won’t be doing business here if this is how they treat their customers.
Extremely disappointed with Mr. Lauzon. Beware he is double faced and unloyal! Lauzon sold us a 1920’s Heintzman upright grand piano in mint condition for $10,000. Later when I asked for repair on a very small broken part this is what he said to me: “your piano is worth nothing…it is too old …if we try to repair one thing three other things break…it is no good anymore…tell you what, we’ll pick it up for free and and get rid of it for you…then we’ll throw it in the dumpster…no you can’t bring the action in to our shop for repair…you should get a new piano…I have one for sale for $$$$ … “. By the way the piano was soon after repaired for $220 at another piano shop.
My go to place for buying new guitar and accessories. Staff is knownledgable. Selection is wide, pianos, acoustic and electric guitars, bass, recording equipment etc you name it they got it.
Great selection, customer service exceeds expectations.
The staff are nice and there are a lot of selections.
Sales personnel not customer friendly
I was hoping to find sheet music for a piano student but the selection was pretty meager. lots of guitars and keyboards though.
This is a review for a web order. TL;DR: Avoid Steve’s if you expect to receive your online order in any reasonable time frame.
Edit: Not 10 minutes after posting this review, the order was updated and shipped later the same day.
I made an order online for 4 items totaling ~$500 since Steve’s Music was the only retailer that had everything I was looking for in stock. It has now been more than 2 weeks and the order is still being “processed”.
Follow-ups have been made by e-mail and also by phone call to obtain an update on the order but to no avail. The Online Helpline only being open from 8:30-4:30 and closed on weekends is ridiculous, more so that every call goes straight to voicemail.
All of the items in my order are listed as “In-Stock Online” and there is no excuse for a two week delay in processing an order. The same item is available for purchase through Amazon, but I opted to buy from Steve’s to support a Canadian business.
At this point I would like to cancel my order and take my business elsewhere, but that’s not possible online and can only be done by calling. Get with the times!
Wanted to buy a cheap guitar for daily practice, but they didn’t sound very welcoming. Didn’t even reply with “you are welcome” to my “thank you”.
Went to the one in Montreal. I’m from the USA. So I don’t speak French. So the guy at the time with long blonde hair was obnoxious. Enough said. You’re rude I’m out. Good luck with that kindve treatment.
20. The Leading Note
Address: 1193 Hunt Club Rd, Ottawa, ON K1V 8S4, Canada , Nepean , Ontario , Canada
Best place to get classical sheet music in Ottawa. Anything they don’t have in stock they are happy to order and the staff is amazing.
In the time of the internet bulldozing every remaining brick and mortar outfit on the planet, it’s such a comfort to still have a music store. These guys are great, helpful and courteous, and if they don’t have it in stock they’ll get it for you before you can say “Ludwig van Beethoven”. And if you’re a teacher, you get a 10% discount! What more do you need to know?
Great service and friendly, helpful staff!
Small location, one of the last remaining print music stores. Good selection
Best in city. Good access to a variety of music.Music search function could be easier to use
